Greek Festival weekend lineup: calamari, dolmathes, souvlaki, spanakopita, baklava

It’s that time of year again. From Saint Demetrios:

A tradition since 1960, the St. Demetrios Greek Festival returns this year, September 21, 22 and 23 at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Seattle’s Montlake neighborhood.

Traditional Greek food, music, dancing and culture will be in abundance when St. Demetrios Church’s grounds and parking lot, located at 2100 Boyer Avenue East, transform into a Greek paradise.

Visitors will have more time to enjoy all that the Greek Festival has to offer this year, as hours of operation have been extended from noon—10pm on Friday, September 21st; 10am—10pm on Saturday, September 22nd and noon—7pm on Sunday, September 23rd. As always, admission and parking are free, with free shuttle service offered from both the Seattle Prep Parking Garage and Montlake Elementary School Playground on Saturday and Sunday during festival hours.

Come for the food and stay for the entertainment! Traditional Greek food will include lamb sandwiches, gyros, calamari, souvlaki, spanakopita, soups, salads and more, plus Greek desserts and pastries—all homemade and freshly prepared by members of St. Demetrios Church. Visitors may also enjoy a seated meal in the Dining Hall, from noon—8pm on Friday and Saturday and noon—7pm on Sunday.

Greek wine tasting will be available all weekend, and Greek beer and wine will also be served in our Taverna bar, which features a large projection screen that will show all of the weekend’s major football, baseball and soccer games. Rain or shine, under the giant white tent at the Greek Festival will be THE place to cheer on your favorite local team.

The award-winning St. Demetrios Greek Dance Groups will provide entertainment for visitors throughout the weekend, with dancers ranging in age from 5-25+ years old. Live Greek music will also be featured on the main stage from local musicians. In addition, church tours will be offered for those wishing to view St. Demetrios’ beautiful sanctuary and learn more about the Orthodox faith.

Be sure to save time for shopping! The Greek Festival offers authentic Greek imports, hand-made boutique items, imported food and deli staples and packaged pastries as well as the return of the This n’ That Shop. There’s even a children’s area featuring games, face painting and prizes.

The Greek Festival is staffed by volunteers from the St. Demetrios community, with all proceeds once again benefitting St. Demetrios’ ministries and community outreach.
